Communication and Cognitive groups empower individuals with neurologic impairments and allow them to connect with others, reducing isolation. They also provide a safe, supportive environment to practice communication and cognitive strategies to facilitate greater functional independence.
Groups run in our office at 5570 Sterrett Place, Suite 303 & 305 in Columbia, Maryland and are facilitated by a licensed therapist. Some groups are offered online via Zoom. We invite members with Aphasia to join us for 1 or 2 groups or stay all day! Map is focused on communication, connection and navigating Aphasia together!

Our new Art therapy group, facilitated by a certified art therapist, is a form of psychotherapy. It focuses on the process of art-making and applied psychological theory, relying less on words for communication. Art therapy for individuals living with communication impairments can be used to improve cognition, foster self-esteem, enhance social skills and connection, and provide a sense of control and autonomy.
Unlike an art class, the session does not focus on the finished product. The goal is to support one's healing process and translate the inner experience into artistic expression.

No one understands Aphasia quite like other people with Aphasia. Connect with small groups of 2-3 people with Aphasia for more personal conversations. Parings meet when its convenient for members and have a 4-week commitment (but many KEEP connecting!) Practice communication in a supportive, tight-knit community of friends.
